PTSA NEWS

Your PCMS PTSA has been busy.  Our first General Membership meeting was held on October 7th.  The Mission and Goals along with the Standing Rules were updated with a unanimous vote.  Our treasurer, Amanda Rench presented our updated budget, which we reviewed and passed also.  Minal Desai-Monga was voted in as our VP of Programs and Events and Stephanie Shipley was voted in as President.  Principal McGowan was able to talk to us at the end for a short update.  We appreciate all who were able to join us for our first meeting and hope even more will join us in January at our next GMM!  There are still open positions on our PTSA Board if you have interest in joining us!  Please contact stephshipley@outlook.com.

Our Fall Grants have been awarded!

PCMS PTSA is once again offering Curriculum Enrichment Grants. For this Fall cycle, there are 5 enrichment grant requests. Grants were awarded after a vote at the GMM. The evaluation process looks at NEED, SUSTAINABILITY and NUMBER OF STUDENTS impacted by the grant request.

FROM THE ISSAQUAH SCHOOL DISTRICT

Make a difference – become a mentor in the Issaquah School District!  If you are looking for an impactful and fulfilling volunteer experience, the Issaquah School District needs people who can support students by meeting with them, at school, during school hours, for 30-60 minutes each week.  Mentors are needed at all grade levels, at all schools in the Issaquah School District.  Mostly due to the pandemic, over 100 mentors have withdrawn at a time when the need is greater than ever. There are currently over 250 students on the waiting list.

Mentoring differs from tutoring in that mentoring focuses on fostering positive, supportive relationships which help students develop skills and attitudes (such as resilience, self-advocacy, self-confidence, etc.) to promote academic achievement and success in life. Here is a YouTube video that the district put together of current mentors talking about their mentoring experience.

You can learn more about the VOICE (Volunteers of Issaquah Changing Education) Mentor Program and submit an application from the Issaquah School District’s VOICE Mentor page. Because mentoring is in-person, proof of vaccination is required. Also, you must be cleared with a background check and attend a 2 hour training.  Email voice@issaquah.wednet.edu if you have any questions.

School Board Candidate Forum 10/21

Are you wondering about candidates running for School Board positions?  KCLS is hosting an ISD Board of Directors Online Candidate Forum Oct. 20th. The Issaquah PTSA is hosting a Virtual School Board Candidate Forum on Oct 21.

Recording of ISD Candidate Forum hosted by Highlands Council on Oct. 6
