OUTREACH

Do you need extra help with food for your school-aged children during Spring Break?

Lunch for the Break is a program offered by the Issaquah Food Bank to provide a week's worth of free produce and non-perishable items for students to be able to prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks for themselves. For this April, we are pleased to offer Lunch for the Break shopping inside the Food Bank! Families can choose from a variety of produce, dairy, proteins, snacks and other kid-friendly items.

Lunch for the Break is available to all families with school-aged children within the Issaquah School District, or the food bank service area.  It takes place on Friday, April 8 from 1p.m. – 7p.m.  at the Food Bank (179 1st Ave SE, Issaquah).

You must register to participate (even if you have previously participated in past Lunch for the Break programs).  Once registered, you’ll be assigned a shopping time to help minimize wait times and maintain social distancing. Families can register online here: https://tinyurl.com/mu33a8x3

Registration closes the morning of April 6.

NEWS FROM ISSAQUAH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

  • Teacher Grants totaling $82.5k were awarded at 15 schools across the district! See the full list here. We really appreciate all of you who were able to help with judging and announcing awards this year!

  • We received over 100 applications for Student Academic Grants from all grade levels and schools across the district. There is clearly a significant need for 1:1 academic support for many in the district and so we are glad to be able to channel $50k to this need as one piece of the Foundation's broader work on academic support.
  • Great partnership with you (our PTSAs) and school nurses on our Breakfast Support program supported by Safeway gift cards to ensure there are some healthy food options for students not able to get that good start from home in the morning.

To ensure these programs continue to flourish, the Foundation staff and board are also hard at work on our Nourish Every Mind fundraiser in May. Each week we will focus on a different critical area of our students' needs. There will be inspiring stories and videos from our students and teachers to rally the community to support our schools. Instead of a single "live" virtual event, we will share short segments throughout the weeks to make it easier for people to engage with.

We will also continue the tradition of an online auction which provides a great connection to our local business community in our support of our students. Have an idea or know a business that may want to participate? Let me know & I'm happy to follow-up. More NEM details and ways to get involved coming soon!

Developing Independent Decision Makers - April 5

Is your student making independent, informed choices? Improving conversations can help because they are the building blocks within a family to share ideas, sharpen our edges, build trust, problem-solve, gather information, argue our point, and share our stories.  Learn strategies to strengthen communication and develop and fine-tune your child’s decision-making skills. Register today.

Levy Vote

The School Board approved (3) renewal levy packages which will go before voters April 26, 2022.  These are renewal levies and will replace the current levies which expire December 31, 2022.  The EP&O and Capital Levies are 4 year levies and will fund programs and critical repairs through December 31, 2026. The Transportation Levy (Bus Levy) is a 1 year levy and will not need to be renewed until 2027. Like a subscription, levies must be renewed or the funding will be lost.

Visit www.visvote.org for more information or Click here for details of what each renewal levy funds
