OUTREACH
Do you need extra help with food for your school-aged children during the mid-winter break?
Lunch for the Break is a program offered by the Issaquah Food Bank to provide a week's worth of free produce and non-perishable items for students to be able to prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks for themselves. Lunch for the Break is available to all families with school-aged children within the Issaquah School District, or the food bank service area zip codes (98027, 98029, 98074, 98059). It takes place on Friday, February 11 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the front door of the Food Bank (179 1st Ave SE, Issaquah).
You must register to participate (even if you have previously participated in past Lunch for the Break programs). Once registered you’ll be emailed a 2 hour block of time in which you’ll be scheduled to pick up your items. This is to help alleviate traffic congestion. Families can register online here: https://issaquahfoodbank.org/lunchforthebreak
Registration closes the morning of February 9.
FROM THE ISSAQUAH SCHOOL DISTRICT
2021-2022 Reflections
Congratulations to our Reflections finalists! See all district finalists in a celebration and reception at the Issaquah High Commons on March 3, from 6:30-8pm.
VOICE Mentor
Make a difference – become a mentor! The Issaquah School District needs volunteers who can support students by meeting with them at school, during school hours, for 30-60 minutes each week. Mentoring differs from tutoring in that mentoring focuses on fostering positive, supportive relationships which help students develop skills and attitudes (such as resilience, self-advocacy, self-confidence, etc.) to promote academic achievement and success in life. Mentors are needed at all grade levels, at all schools in the Issaquah School District (including students at Sunny Hills). Mostly due to the pandemic, over 100 mentors have withdrawn at a time when the need is greater than ever. There are currently over 250 students on the waiting list. Learn more or submit your application through the Issaquah School District’s VOICE Mentor page.
ParentWiser Presents
Do you worry that your students are detached, distracted by, or addicted to their digital devices? Devorah Heitner, PhD is the media expert to turn to for empowering advice. She advocates for mentoring, not (just) monitoring and better communication across the generations. She will address common fears and concerns with research-based, realistic approaches, and a developmentally focused, tech-positive mindset. February 16th, 7pm. Register on Eventbrite.
ISD Renewal Levies will be on the April 26th, 2022 Ballot
In April the Issaquah School district will be asking voters to approve the renewal of the EP&O levy, the Transportation Levy, and the Capital Levy (Technology and Capital) which are expiring December 31, 2022. Like a subscription, local school levies must be renewed, or the funding will be lost. A Levy Development committee was chartered in December, made up of community members, business representatives, and a member from each school attendance area. Considering the current economic climate, committee members will form levy packages that include funding essential to:
